It’s important to know that doing injections requires presence of mind and above all an understanding of and willingness to respect a strict adherence to sterility. Several choices are available for you:
- Ask your doctor to do them for you. You need to understand that even at the level of doctors, steroids remain poorly understood. Apart from specialists in sports medicine, your doctor may have a certain reticence in giving you your first injections. If you’re an active sportsperson and are monitored medically, there’ll be no problem: your sports doctor will be familiar with the process.
- Ask a friend. Many active fitness enthusiasts help each other to do their injections. It’s extremely important to never use the same syringe twice. Never use the same syringe for different people. You need to carefully wash your hands and disinfect the skin with cotton dipped in alcohol.
- Do the injections yourself. Sub-cutaneous injections are performed either standing up or sitting down, into the sub-cutaneous tissue of the belly or sides, at a distance from the navel, on either the left or right side.
Having carefully washed your hands, disinfected the area of the injection with cotton dipped in alcohol heated to 90°.
Take a fold of skin between the thumb and index finger on a side of the belly, at some distance from the navel.
Don’t purge the syringe. Introduce the needle to its full length, perpendicular to the skin fold. Keep the skin folded throughout the injection.
After the injection, withdraw the needle while keeping the skin folded. Don’t rub it. Dab it gently with a cotton swab.
