Anabolic steroids produce an increase in muscle mass and of strength, and are therefore naturally used in sport, particularly bodybuilding. From a physiological point of view, anabolic steroids act on muscle mass.
- They increase the production of proteins.
- They reduce recovery times by blocking the effects of cortisol on the muscular tissue, so that the catabolism of muscles is greatly reduced.
Anabolic steroids also have an effect on the number of cells which turn into fat-storage cells, biasing differentiation in favour of muscle cells. Anabolic steroids therefore also have an important effect on the reduction of fat.
